For those of you who haven’t yet heard, patrols are permitted this Friday to wear their choice of clothes for picture day.  This means, yes, you can opt out of your Friday uniform this week!  Smile!

Glow Necklaces for Sale!

October 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments · fundraisers

I’m looking for some good sales-patrols!  We will be selling glow necklaces at the carnival this year.  We need patrols to work 30 minute shifts with a partner selling these hot items for tickets.  The proceeds from this quick and easy fundraiser will go into our field trip account.  If you’re interested, please sign up at The Patrol’s Post outside room 208.

Thanks!

Fundraiser News

September 27th, 2008 · 4 Comments · fundraisers

Wow!  I cannot believe it is already almost October!  It is time to start talking about fundraisers!!!

We have a lot on the horizon.  Here is a brief summary of our first few projects:

Gator Bowl Ticket Sale

A brief letter will go home soon with every Chets Creek student explaining a fun and exciting football fundraiser.  Chets Creek Families (and friends) will be able to purchase tickets to the Gator Bowl on January 1st at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for HALF PRICE!  Tickets, which sell for $50 each, will be sold until November 7th for only $25.  Additionally, honor roll students receive a FREE TICKET if their family makes a ticket purchase!  Wow!  The best part is that $10 from every ticket sold goes to benefit the Safety Patrols!

Carnival Glow “Stuff”

Patrols will also be selling glow items at the “Around the World Carnival” on October 23rd.  This will be a fun night!  Don’t miss it!

Candy Sales

Who doesn’t love a good chocolate bar?  Beginning in mid-November, safety patrols will receive a box of chocolate bars.  Bars will sell for $1 each, and the patrols organization will retain 50% of the sale price for every bar sold!  This year, for all those chocolate lovers out there, we will be selling a variety pack of chocolate which includes selections such as:  almond bars, solid milk chocolate, chocolate with puffed rice bars, and DARK CHOCOLATE.  (yumm…)  Please stay tuned for more information coming soon!

Cookie Dough Sales

Did you know that any patrols who participate in the cookie dough sales will PERSONALLY benefit from their hard work?  Patrols who plan to attend the Washington, DC trip this summer will get credit for their entire “profit” applied to their trip cost!  (By “profit”, I mean the entire portion of the sale price that the school gets to keep.)  What a great way to make a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity more affordable!  Keep that in mind when this sale rolls around.

You might be wondering why we’ll be doing so many fundraisers.  Obviously, the cookie dough sales are directly benefiting the Washington, DC trip.  The income from the other fundraisers will go towards the cost of our Orlando field trip in the spring, the cost of belts and other patrol supplies, and help this class of students leave their mark on CCE.  We will be saving some funds this year to give back to our school in a permanent way.  We’d like to have enough money in June to make an improvement in our campus in some special way.  If you have any wonderful ideas for this special gift to CCE, please feel free to share them with us.  We’re in the process of gathering ideas and making plans for this important project.

Thank you for your time and support.  We’re excited to begin these projects!

Uniform Policies

August 31st, 2008 · 2 Comments · uniforms

This past Friday , our FIRST Friday of school this year, thanks to Tropical Storm Fay, happened to be a school spirit day.  Mrs. Phillips requested that we all wear our school shirts to show our pride in Chets Creek.  Since we were not scheduled for a flag raising that day, we allowed our patrols to deviate from their required blue and white uniforms IF they were wearing a school shirt.  This has, rightly so, brought about a few questions regarding uniforms.

If we are scheduled for a flag raising that Friday, ALWAYS DRESS IN UNIFORM.  Clean white shirts, nice blue “bottoms”, shirts tucked in, and clean shoes.  Yes, denim is allowable, as long as it is clean and nice.  (Don’t wear your jeans with holes in the knees and rhinestones on the pockets.)  We prefer navy blue cotton or twill, but a dark blue denim is acceptable.

Please feel free to direct further uniform questions to Mrs. Nash or Mr. Montisano.

How do you fold the Stars and Stripes?

August 16th, 2008 · No Comments · flag etiquette

As a member of our patrol corps, you may have the honor of serving on our flag team. In the event you are selected for this duty, you will need to know how to properly and respectfully handle the American flag, as well as the other flags flown on our campus.

For starters, spend a few moments with this website. It includes a tutorial (lesson) on how to fold the American flag properly. Also, be sure to check out the CCE Safety Patrol Corps Flag Team Handbook, which can be found outside room 208 on the “Patrols’ Post” wall.

Refer back to this tutorial as often as necessary. Also, please feel free to ask your patrol sponsors for assistance as needed.
